SINGAPORE – The amount of money spent on Singapore Pools lotteries and sports betting in the last financial year rose about 40 per cent from the previous year to $9.2 billion, a Tote Board spokesman said in November 2022. This is the biggest sum of money on these bets in a decade.
Singapore Pools’ statutory body, the Tote Board, regulates lottery operators Singapore Pools and the Singapore Turf Club, which runs horse races. It also governs sports betting, which includes football and motor racing bets.
While lottery gambling is not illegal, Singapore Pools encourages players to play responsibly and avoid borrowing money to bet. Mr Chua emphasized that families should look out for their loved ones who may be addicted to gambling. He added that family members could apply for a family exclusion order to suspend an individual’s online account. If a person has a problem with gambling, they should seek help and should not gamble beyond their means.
